Quality Enhancement Cell, QEC (previously known as Quality Management Cell) was established in 1999 with the aim to develop and implement Quality Management System at NED University. The cell successfully acquired ISO 9000 certification in year 2002. Since then, the QEC has been instrumental in assuring quality to its customers and stakeholders. With the advent of QAA in recent years, QEC NED has coordinated with HEC with the spirit of continual improvement. The following are major highlights from 2019-20:

QEC IN ‘W” CATEGORY

Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) of the HEC assesses the progress of the Quality Enhancement Cells (QECs) of all Universities through a quantitative ‘Scorecard System’ based upon their performance and participation in quality-related processes. During the reporting period, the University QEC has been assigned a score of 94.11% with a placement in ‘W’ Category.

CAPACITY BUILDING

Another important activity of Quality Enhancement Cell is planning and arrangement of various training Programmes/workshops according to the requirement of departments. Initially 20 training programmes were planned to be conducted during the period but later some more trainings were also conducted and as such thirty six (36) training programmes were arranged. In January, 2018 faculty development programme of 36 hours was also organized for new and young faculty members in order to improve their teaching performance and learning outcomes.

RECERTIFICATION OF ISO 9001:2015

NED University has successfully recertified the QMS standards to ISO 9001:2015. Recertification of the University to ISO 9001:2015 of the University conducted by LRQA from 23rd to 27th November, 2020 and after successful audit and Transition to ISO 9001:2015, the University was certified by LRQA.

ESTABLISHMENT OF THE QECs AT AFFILIATED COLLEGE / INSTITUTIONS

In pursuance of QAA-HEC instructions, NED University has successfully established the QECs in all affiliated colleges/ institutes of the University. In this regard, the NED-QEC has conducted necessary meetings and arranged training Programme for all nominated officials of affiliated colleges/ institutes to develop Self-Assessment Reports (SARs) in their respective colleges/ institutes.

IPE OF THE UNIVERSITY

The Review Panel of Quality Assurance Agency of the Higher Education Commission (QAA-HEC) visited NED University to conduct Institutional Performance Evaluation (IPE) from 21st – 23rd February, 2018. The Review Panel was assisted by the Director QEC and his Team. During the opening meeting with the Vice-Chancellor, a presentation was delivered by Dr. Muhammad Wasif, Deputy Director covering the University’s governance system, academic programmes and activities and important parameters related to academic and research. The Panel thoroughly assessed the University Portfolio Report (UPR-2018) and verified all the related evidences; visited different facilities in the university including Engr. Abul Kalam Library, various class rooms and laboratories, sports facilities, Directorate of Industrial Liaison, Examination Department and Department of Students Affairs. The Panel also interacted with the students, faculty and Heads of various teaching and non-teaching departments. In the closing meeting, the convener of the Review Panel, Dr. Gul Hasan thanked the Vice Chancellor and his team for the hospitality and facilitation during IPE process and suggested few areas of attention for future improvements. He showed his satisfaction and appreciated the efforts of the Vice Chancellor towards enhancement of quality standards at NED University. The Vice Chancellor thanked the Panel and assured corrective and preventive measures over their suggestions.

REVIEW OF MASTERS/PHD PROGRAMS OF THE UNIVERSITY

The Program Review Committee of Quality Assurance Agency of the Higher Education Commission (QAA-HEC) conducted review of Masters/PhD Programs of NED University on 5th April, 2018. The Committee was welcomed by Prof. Dr. Asif Ahmed Shaikh, Director QEC. During the opening meeting, a comprehensive presentation was delivered by Dr. Riaz Uddin, Deputy Director (QEC) detailing the Masters and PhD Programs at NED University, status of NOCs of programs started after November 2013, facilities, achievements and important parameters related to academics and research. The Committee thoroughly assessed the University’s Masters/PhD programs and visited research and academic facilities such as Virtual Reality Centre (VRC) and Classrooms etc. The Committee also interacted with research students of Masters/PhD programs and research supervisors and conducted separate meetings with HODs, Deans, Controller of Examinations and Secretary, Advanced Studies Research Board (ASRB). In closing meeting, the Head of the QAA-HEC Review Committee thanked the Vice Chancellor and NED University Team for the hospitality and facilitation during review process. He also suggested few areas of attention for future improvements. The Vice Chancellor appreciated the deep involvement of the Committee for their observations and assured positive considerations on their suggestions.
